Norouz/Nowrouz, (literally: new day) is the Iranian/Persian New Year which is celebrated worldwide by various ethno-linguistic groups and nationalities. It is the day of the vernal equinox which marks the beginning of Spring. This coincides with the rebirth of planet earth and rejuvenation of mother nature.
The New Year celebration has deep roots in Persian culture, history and heritage and has been celebrated for more than 3,000 years. Several cities across the U.S. have Norouz proclamations and in Portland, several Norouz celebrations take place.
